Welcome to Thanetcraft for Aluminium Boats

In 2013 Thanetcraft achieved its 64th  year of building aluminium boats. When we first started after the last war, aluminium alloy was virtually unknown as a boat building material. So from relatively humble beginnings with children's Paddle boats we progressed through to larger craft such as Row-Punts & Row-Boats, Fishing-Punts & Work-Boats, Catamarans and Floating Platforms, for diverse markets within local authorities, public utilities such as the water industry through to the countryside with its estates. Thanetcraft also built assault craft which were employed by our forces in the Malaysian campaign.

Marine grade aluminium is being increasingly appreciated by the UK market where relative lightness and ruggedness is combined with low maintenance demands & costs. In fact wherever water (whether inland or off shore) is being used for recreation or as a working environment, Thanetcraft will have a craft to offer... no wonder our motto is now "we can build anything that has to float". In fact we see ourselves as bespoke tailors of aluminium with emphasis on customisation uppermost with all clients, whether an aesthetically pleasing or functional craft is demanded. So although we have some twenty designs from which to choose, the potential for detail variations is legion.

In 1992, the ALUSTAR range of fast response RBBs (Rigid Buoyancy Boats up to about 10m length) was added to our inventory of designs. With visual similarities to, and performance of a RIB, an ALUSTAR fast response RBB has the stability of a Dory accompanied by the durability, minimal maintenance etc to be expected of a marine aluminium hull. Our design options leaflet illuminates some ideas in our approach to potential customers so they can get the boat they need. We have been in the forefront of widening the appreciation of Water jet outboards as a safe power source for those using our boats for diving and rescue purposes.

More recently we have started building a range of aluminium sailing dinghies such as the ALIOPI and the ALIMIRROR plus a new design for sailing schools with Bermudan rig.

With this pedigree Thanetcraft feels it has a wealth of experience, in terms of design ideas and quality of construction using marine aluminium alloy, which it is proud to continue offering the boating public for another half century.
